15 Mar 4 Natural ways to run your art business
The time you dedicate to the business side of your art shouldn't feel like a drag.
All your marketing efforts online should be just as enjoyable as creating art is – while also creating the most authentic experience for your future audience.
Here are the 4 underlying concepts you should keep in mind as you're working on your art business:
01: You have the “permission” to create a “boutique” personal brand for your art business.
Often when you hear about marketing anything online you immediately think it’s tainted in tackiness and brashness. Running your art business doesn’t have to feel this way.
Rather, think of your art business as “artisanal” and “boutique”, the whole idea of self-promotion and marketing doesn’t have to be tacky or spammy. You can turn your illustration business into something that grows naturally while being authentic at the same time.
Authenticity and effectiveness are a perfect pair.
02: Speaking to your audience with genuine care and respect.
In the online world, there is a lot of sleazy advice with a disrespectful tone. The whole vibe is just not something I vibe with. When I set out to grow my art business primarily online, I was turned off by all the brash marketing tactics being used online.
My guiding intention in all my communication is to write and speak in as a genuine person, to genuine people.
The more dialed-in I got with the audience I wanted for my art, the more replies I began to get from my email newsletter. Which resulted in more art sales in the long run.
03: The peace of mind that comes from having a system to authentically engage with my audience.
Understanding how to use your inbox to sell your art – allows you to authentically spark new professional relationship with creative VIPs and decision makers.
Crafting authentic emails to new clients is what makes getting illustration clients manageable and scaleable.
04: Having a systematic mindset and solid strategic thinking
This is HUGE. One of the main reasons artists feel stuck is because they don't have a way to integrate a strategic mindset and a step-by-step system for getting clients. They wait to “get discovered” on social media or use other passive tactics.
Once artists went through my entrepreneurship workshop and started blogging about their art, something interesting started happening to them:
They started to get “thank you’s” from there email art newsletter
Why? Because these illustrators (fresh out of Illustration Essentials) were making professional connections in an authentic way. All by following the email frameworks in my workshop.
My goal has always been to create a resource that cuts through all the time-consuming “marketing fluff' artists often get stuck spending time on. Things like social media and paying for ads – waiting to “get discovered”.
Instead, I want to pay it forward and show other artists (like you!) how the only thing standing between you and your future art business growth – is an authentic art newsletter delivered in a genuine way to genuine people.
I'm anxious to show you how to do all of this and more in my workshop for artists.
