The island of Borneo is the third-largest in the world and lies right on the equator. But what makes it truly special is its biodiversity.
Home to the oldest rainforest on the planet, Borneo is a living, breathing museum of natural history. With over 15,000 species of plants, of which 6,000 are endemic, it's a botanist's dream come true. But it's not just the flora that's impressive; the fauna is equally mind-blowing. New species are being discovered almost every month!
As a wildlife artist, I was like a kid in a candy store. The sheer variety of life forms, colors, and shapes was overwhelming. Every leaf, every insect, and every animal seemed like a masterpiece waiting to be captured in my sketchbook.
The Borneo Natural Sukau Bilit Resort Experience
After leaving the Sabah Rainforest Discovery Center, our next stop was the Borneo Natural Sukau Bilit Resort.
Nestled on the banks of the Kinabatangan River, this resort was our home away from home for the next three nights. And what a home it was!
